I recently shared with you my plans to start an online digital marketing course and with the help of my employer I have selected the Google Squared Online virtual learning course.
Squared Online is a digital marketing leadership course with an emphasis on Google technologies. It is not developed or offered by Google but developed with Google and delivered through Squared Online’s team of industry experts. The third party here is Avado who are responsible for instructional design and online delivery.
In a nutshell, here’s the flow of responsibilities:
If you are interested in learning other digital technologies, I suggest you go back to my post on the Top 5 Digital Marketing Courses.
Before committing to this course, I had a few questions I needed answering and below is the summary of what I found.
Why is Squared Online any different from other digital marketing courses?
Coming into this course, I had heard that it is quite time intensive yet rewarding. The overall feedback I receive from my colleagues was that it extends beyond the technology to bridge the gap between ‘what’ you can do with digital and ‘why’ you are doing it. Basically, integrating digital marketing technologies with strategic marketing. That sounds exactly what I would expect.
Is Squared Online strategic enough?
The course aims to teach you a mix of digital marketing technologies, leadership, virtual collaboration, stakeholder management and much more. It is clearly a holistic leadership course designed for marketing managers that want to continue to stay relevant as technologies evolve.
How long will it take?
The course is taught over 5 months. Sounds heavy and the feedback is that you will need to commit around 4-8 hours weekly. I will keep you updated as I progress in my upcoming posts.
What does it cover?
Based on the information received, the course is divided across 5 learning modules. Each module is delivered over several weeks. Modules are split as follows:
- Embracing Change: How digital impacts the customer journey, strategy and business models.
- Digital Trends: How consumer behavior has changed based on various trends.
- Digital Channels and Strategy: How to deliver marketing strategy across digital channels.
- Data Analytics and Insights: How to track, measure and generate insights.
- Staying Ahead of the Curve: How to spot trends that will impact your business.
How will Squared Online help my career?
From their website, there are many testimonials about people upgrading their career, starting a new career in marketing and more. Here are some examples.

I plan to enhance my Squared Online experience by blogging about it. There are quite a few positive (here’s another one) and negative reviews out there and I hope what I share in the coming months provide a better understanding of what is actually being offered and if its right for you. Stay tuned for updates as I progress. If you have any specific questions, please post them in the comments section and I will get back to you.
